State College, Pa. – Strong thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds and hail could impact parts of central Pennsylvania through midnight Monday, as the National Weather Service extended Severe Thunderstorm Watch 401 to include 11 counties.
According to the National Weather Service in State College, the watch remains in effect until 12 a.m. Tuesday for Blair, Centre, Clinton, Huntingdon, Juniata, Lycoming, Mifflin, Tioga, Cambria, Clearfield, and Somerset counties. Wind gusts over 60 mph and isolated hail are the primary threats, especially along I-99 and U.S. 322 corridors.
Cities under watch include Altoona, State College, Lock Haven, Lewistown, Johnstown, and Williamsport. Lightning, downed tree limbs, and power outages are possible into the night, particularly in higher elevation areas like Somerset and Tioga counties.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay indoors as storms move through. Power crews and first responders may experience delays due to road debris and weather-related hazards.
The watch expires at midnight in most areas, though additional alerts may follow if storms continue eastward. Stay tuned to local media and NOAA Weather Radio for updates through the evening.
