Binghamton, N.Y. – Umbrellas will be essential across Central New York today as rain showers move through the region, with the heaviest activity expected from late afternoon into the overnight hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, light rain will begin spreading northeastward from the Southern Tier throughout Tuesday, as a warm front advances. High temperatures will range widely, from the mid-50s in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, to the low 70s in parts of northern Oneida County, including Boonville and Utica.

Cities along the I-81 corridor—such as Binghamton (66°F), Cortland (65°F), and Syracuse (69°F)—can expect wet conditions that may linger into the Wednesday morning commute. Road surfaces could become slick during peak evening travel, particularly in rural areas with poor drainage.

Scattered showers will become more widespread overnight, bringing a damp end to the day across areas like Scranton, Montrose, and Norwich. Residents are advised to keep devices charged and minimize non-essential travel on rain-slicked roads.

Rain chances remain elevated into early Wednesday, with the potential for additional advisories as the system progresses northward.
