A mild Saturday awaits Central North Carolina, with partly sunny skies and temperatures ranging from the upper 70s to mid-80s. By tonight, residents in the Southwest Piedmont area should prepare for a chance of light showers as a cold front approaches, marking the start of a cooler trend that will impact the region into the week.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Raleigh, tonight’s temperatures will drop into the lower 50s, with cooler air gradually settling in. Sunday will see a marked shift, with highs only reaching between 57 and 66 degrees, coupled with a slight 20% chance of rain after 2 p.m. This cooler spell will likely continue, with Sunday night lows predicted to fall to around 43 degrees.

As temperatures continue to drop, Monday and Tuesday will remain cooler than previous weeks, with daytime highs expected between 61 and 70 degrees on Monday and 67 to 78 degrees on Tuesday. Overnight lows could fall into the 40s, bringing a potential for patchy frost in rural areas by Sunday night, particularly impacting counties such as Wake, Johnston, and Harnett.

For residents in affected regions, taking steps to protect sensitive plants and preparing for colder mornings may be advisable. The NWS also advises that spotter activation is not expected, though keeping an eye on local forecasts for any updates is recommended. The region will experience mostly sunny skies through the mid-week, allowing for clear but cooler autumn days.

By Wednesday, Central North Carolina residents can expect sunny skies with a high near 79 degrees, with temperatures stabilizing around this range through Friday.
