Greensboro, NC – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for portions of central and northwest North Carolina until 9 a.m. Tuesday. Black ice and light snow are creating dangerous conditions on roadways, with gusty winds reaching up to 45 mph further complicating travel.
According to the National Weather Service, overnight snow accumulation is expected to stay under one inch, but freezing temperatures will lead to slick roads, especially on bridges and overpasses. Commuters should plan for delays and use extra caution during the morning rush, particularly along major routes like I-40 and I-85. High-profile vehicles may face additional challenges due to strong wind gusts.
Temperatures will remain bitterly cold, with highs only reaching the upper 20s on Tuesday. Conditions will improve slightly on Wednesday, with partly sunny skies and highs near 34°F. However, lows will plunge to around 12°F Wednesday night. Thursday will bring sunshine but continued cold, with daytime highs of just 25°F.
Drivers are advised to slow down, avoid sudden stops, and keep an emergency kit in their vehicles. Residents should also prepare for potential power outages caused by falling tree branches or downed lines. Keep generators outside in well-ventilated areas, and report outages to local utility providers.
Looking ahead, another winter storm could bring additional snow and ice to the region late Friday into Saturday.
