Binghamton, NY – Showers are set to sweep across central New York and northern Pennsylvania by Friday afternoon, bringing locally heavy rain, isolated thunderstorms, and travel slowdowns from Syracuse to Monticello.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, rain will push in from west to east between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. Friday. Showers reach Auburn and Bath by 3 p.m., Ithaca and Elmira around 5 p.m., with Binghamton and Montrose seeing rain by 7 p.m. Areas along I-88, including Deposit, Oneonta, and Delhi, can expect wet roads and heavier rain between 8 and 9 p.m.
Storm totals of 0.5 to 1 inch are likely for much of the region, but localized pockets near Montrose and Monticello could see up to 1.5 inches by Saturday evening. Roads such as I-81, I-86, and I-88 may become slick, especially during the evening commute. The risk of isolated thunderstorms will linger into early Saturday.
Residents should avoid unnecessary travel during heavy downpours and keep devices charged in case of isolated outages. Cooler temperatures and scattered showers will persist through Saturday night, with additional updates possible as conditions evolve.
