Utica, NY – A winter weather advisory is in effect for Oneida County and parts of central New York, beginning Monday evening. Residents should prepare for snowfall that could create hazardous driving conditions through Tuesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the advisory starts at 7 p.m. Monday and lasts until 1 p.m. Tuesday. Snowfall totals are expected to range from 3 to 6 inches in Northern and Southern Oneida County, with slightly lower amounts of 2 to 5 inches forecasted for surrounding areas, including Syracuse and Cortland.

The heaviest snowfall is predicted to occur between midnight and 7 a.m. Tuesday, potentially complicating the morning commute. Roads may become slippery, particularly on untreated surfaces. Drivers are urged to reduce speeds and allow extra time for travel.

Additional details indicate that snow will begin tapering off by late Tuesday morning but may continue in some areas into the early afternoon.

The NWS advises residents to monitor weather updates and call 511 for the latest road conditions. Residents should also ensure vehicles are equipped with winter supplies and consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.

This storm serves as a reminder to stay prepared for winter weather. Ensure your emergency kits are stocked and that your home is ready for potential power outages.
