Indianapolis, Ind. – Hot, humid air will fuel afternoon and evening storms across Indiana on Sunday, with the northwest region facing the highest risk of lightning, heavy rainfall, and gusty winds.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, heat index values may climb near 100°F on Sunday, while scattered storms are likely to develop after 2 p.m. across areas like Lafayette, Kokomo, and parts of Tippecanoe and Carroll counties. Monday and Tuesday will stay warm and muggy, with more storms expected, particularly in southern and central Indiana.

Localized downpours could cause brief street flooding and hazardous driving on I-65 and U.S. 231. Residents are urged to stay weather-aware, limit outdoor activity during peak heat, and secure loose outdoor items due to strong wind potential. While temperatures will ease slightly into the mid-to-upper 80s by midweek, the air will remain humid and unstable.

Daily storm chances continue through at least Wednesday, with the next significant weather update expected late Sunday night.
