Indianapolis, IN – Thunderstorms and dangerous heat will return to central Indiana by Sunday afternoon, bringing potential travel headaches and outdoor safety risks.

According to the National Weather Service, a 30% chance of scattered storms will develop in the Indianapolis area after 3 p.m. Sunday, with high temperatures soaring near 92°F. Gusty winds up to 18 mph could accompany the storms, especially along key corridors like I-70 and I-465, where visibility and road traction may be reduced.

Southwest winds, shifting westward by evening, may intensify localized downpours. If you’re heading outdoors or commuting later in the day, stay weather-aware, hydrate frequently, and have a backup plan for any outdoor activities.

While Monday night turns partly cloudy with a low around 67°F, Tuesday brings drier air and mostly sunny skies, pushing highs back to 87°F. However, the reprieve won’t last long.

By Wednesday, storm chances rise again with a 40% chance of thunderstorms after 2 p.m., followed by additional rounds Wednesday night through Friday, as muggy air and unstable conditions persist.
