Central Illinois – Isolated showers and thunderstorms could impact areas south of I-74 in central Illinois tonight through Thursday, but widespread rainfall is not expected. While some regions may see brief storm activity, temperatures will remain seasonably warm, with highs ranging from the low 70s today to mid-60s by Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service, isolated thunderstorms will mainly occur south of I-74 late today and through Thursday morning. Thunderstorms are expected to be most concentrated from Bloomington westward, with chances of rain diminishing to the south. As a cold front pushes through, temperatures will cool significantly by Thursday, ranging from 60°F to 72°F, before rebounding into the 70s by the weekend.
While much of the state will experience mild, pleasant weather over the next few days, areas along and south of I-74 should be prepared for a few showers and possible storms this evening. Although rain chances remain low, drivers should remain cautious on roads, particularly in the western regions of the state. Those heading out this evening should expect temperatures in the mid-to-upper 40s overnight, with conditions improving by Friday.
As the week progresses, temperatures will continue to cool behind Thursday’s cold front, dipping into the 60s and 70s on Friday and Saturday. Temperatures will warm back into the 70s by Sunday, offering a return to more typical spring conditions.
Low rain chances and pleasant conditions will continue through Thursday before temperatures begin to cool. Keep an eye on local forecasts as more updates may be issued for any potential storm development.
