Champaign, Ill. – Light showers and patchy fog could slow Thursday morning commutes along I-74 near Champaign, with storm chances returning into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, a few thunderstorms are possible early Thursday, mainly in areas north of Interstate 74, including McLean, De Witt, and Piatt counties. Rain chances taper by noon, giving way to mostly cloudy skies and drier conditions through Friday.

Patchy fog may reduce visibility before 8 a.m. Thursday, particularly along rural roadways between Bloomington and Champaign. Drivers are urged to use low beams and allow extra time during morning hours. Wind gusts remain light, shifting northwest by the afternoon.

Friday brings a return of summer warmth with highs near 76°F under mostly sunny skies. Winds could gust up to 20 mph in the afternoon, adding a bit of breeze to the day. Saturday will feel even more like early summer, with sunshine and temperatures reaching 80°F.

Here’s a look at the extended 5-day outlook for central Illinois:

  • Thursday: Light morning rain, patchy fog, high near 70°F.
  • Friday: Mostly sunny and breezy, high around 76°F.
  • Saturday: Sunny skies, high of 80°F.
  • Sunday: Clear early, high near 81°F.
  • Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high around 82°F.

No severe weather is expected through early next week, but additional weather alerts could be issued if storm chances increase.
