Lincoln, IL – Isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected to move through parts of central Illinois tonight, with the heaviest activity south of I-74. As a cold front pushes southward, residents in these areas may see brief rainfall and possible thunderstorms through Thursday afternoon. The National Weather Service reports that the rainfall will be scattered and not widespread, with moderate showers possible in southeast Illinois.

According to the NWS, there is a 20-50% chance for rain and thunderstorms south of I-72 on Thursday, with breezy northwest winds and temperatures reaching the upper 60s to low 70s. Areas along I-74 will see cooler temperatures overnight, with lows dipping into the low to mid-40s by Thursday and Friday mornings.

Travelers should be prepared for potential slick roads in areas that experience rain and thunderstorms, especially for drivers along I-72 and southward. The rest of the week will see generally pleasant weather with mostly sunny skies on Friday and into the weekend, with highs climbing into the mid-70s by Saturday.

However, be mindful of the cool nights ahead and plan to dress warmly for evening activities. Warming trends are expected next week, with more seasonal temperatures arriving by Monday.
