Lincoln, IL – Cooler temperatures are moving into Illinois this weekend, and parts of central and southeast Illinois could spot their first snowflakes of the season, according to the US National Weather Service in Central Illinois.
Forecasters say a system arriving Saturday night into Sunday morning may bring light rain or snow, though accumulations are expected to be minimal. The National Weather Service estimates only a 10–20% chance of a dusting of snow, and less than a 5% chance of more than one inch.
The cold front will also bring breezy winds on Sunday, with gusts between 25 and 35 mph, and daytime highs falling into the 40s. Residents may notice flurries north of Interstate 74, where the best (though still low) chance of seeing snow exists.
Meteorologists caution that uncertainty remains in the system’s exact track and strength. While a few flakes could be spotted, significant snowfall is not expected anywhere in Illinois this weekend.
Officials encourage residents to follow trusted forecast sources and avoid exaggerated reports as the region heads into early winter weather patterns.
