Central Illinois Weather Alert: Thunderstorms Threaten Holiday Weekend

Lincoln, IL – Today is Independence Day, and Central Illinois residents should prepare for scattered thunderstorms and heavy rain throughout the day. The forecast predicts temperatures ranging from 80 to 87 degrees, with mostly cloudy skies.

According to the US National Weather Service in Lincoln, IL, the probability of precipitation is high, especially in areas like Champaign, Decatur, and Springfield. Rain chances will fluctuate between 40% and 60% throughout the day, peaking in the late afternoon.

Looking ahead, Friday is expected to be mostly sunny with temperatures ranging from 77 to 85 degrees. However, rain chances return by Friday afternoon, particularly in Bloomington, Danville, and Jacksonville. Saturday through Monday will see a mix of sun and clouds with occasional thunderstorms, especially in the afternoons. Temperatures will range from the low 80s to the high 80s.

Champaign is expected to see rainy conditions from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., with a thunderstorm likely around 11 a.m. The rain should taper off by early afternoon, but cloudy conditions will persist. Friday and Saturday will be drier, with temperatures in the low 80s.
