Central Illinois – Severe thunderstorms are set to impact Illinois starting Monday night, with a second round of storms expected Tuesday afternoon through evening, according to the National Weather Service. The state faces risks of gusty winds, large hail, and isolated flash flooding.

According to the National Weather Service, a cold front will move through the region, bringing thunderstorms starting late Monday night after 10 p.m. The primary threat for Monday is gusty winds of 60 to 70 mph and quarter-sized hail. A low (2-5%) chance of tornadoes is also possible across northern and central Illinois. The severe weather is expected to affect cities such as Chicago, Peoria, and Rockford.

On Tuesday, the storm risk continues through the afternoon and into the evening, with the greatest threat being high winds up to 60 mph. Similar to Monday, quarter-sized hail could hit the region, along with a possibility of isolated flash flooding. Areas to the south, including Springfield and Carbondale, will face the brunt of the storm later in the day.

Residents are urged to prepare for the possibility of power outages, stay indoors during storms, and monitor local weather alerts for updates as timing and storm intensity may change. Stay alert and ready to act quickly if severe weather strikes.
