Springfield, Ill. – Scattered showers could soak parts of Central Illinois tonight, with the most widespread rainfall expected before dawn Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, rain chances increase to 50% overnight, especially in areas north of I-74. Showers may linger through Thursday, though coverage will become more isolated as the week progresses. Highs will hover in the low 70s through Thursday before climbing into the 80s on Friday and Saturday.

Drivers along I-55 and I-72 should stay alert for wet pavement and reduced visibility late tonight into Wednesday morning. Overnight lows will dip into the 50s, with patchy fog possible in low-lying areas. No severe storms are expected, but isolated downpours could briefly impact morning commutes in cities like Bloomington, Decatur, and Champaign.

Warmer weather is on the horizon, with Friday highs between 75 and 80 degrees and a continued warm-up into the weekend. Saturday brings a 30% chance of afternoon thunderstorms, with highs expected to reach the mid-80s.

Rain chances taper by Thursday night, but unsettled conditions could return Saturday. Residents should monitor updates and be ready for possible lightning or brief delays this weekend.
