Springfield, IL – Showers and thunderstorms will move across central Illinois Monday night into Tuesday morning, bringing moderate to heavy rainfall. Rainfall totals of 0.50 to 1 inch are forecast, with higher amounts possible along a line stretching from Springfield to Danville.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the storms will gradually taper off from west to east by Tuesday afternoon. Some areas, especially between Springfield and Danville, may receive over 1 inch of rain.
Mild and dry weather is expected to return Wednesday, but forecasters are watching the remnants of a hurricane anticipated to hit the Florida Panhandle on Thursday. The system could track northward and bring additional showers to central Illinois by the end of the week.
