Lincoln, Ill. – Temperatures across Central Illinois are soaring into the upper 70s this week, nearly 20 degrees above normal, with a chance for isolated strong storms through Tuesday evening—especially in counties north of I-72.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, highs will climb to 79°F by Thursday, with today’s range between 73–77°F. While widespread rain holds off until Thursday night, storms could fire up this afternoon between 4 and 8 p.m., mainly north of a Macomb-to-Lacon line. Gusty winds up to 60 mph and isolated hail are possible, though the overall severe risk remains low for most of central Illinois.
Cities like Galesburg, Peoria, and Bloomington may see brief impacts, particularly for commuters and anyone with outdoor plans. Officials advise staying weather-aware and being ready to seek shelter if storms develop unexpectedly. While tornadoes aren’t expected, isolated cells could still pack a punch.
Conditions remain dry and unseasonably warm through midweek. Widespread rain is more likely Thursday night into Friday, when temperatures stay in the low 80s. Additional advisories could be issued as that system develops.
