Springfield, Ill. – Temperatures across Central Illinois will dip into the 40s at night as a slow-moving low-pressure system brings rounds of showers and a few thunderstorms through early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, breezy conditions and scattered afternoon showers are expected today, with highs reaching 67 to 72 degrees. A stronger wave of showers and isolated thunderstorms is likely Saturday into Sunday night, with chances ranging from 30% to 60% across the region. Overnight lows will steadily drop into the mid-to-upper 40s through Monday night.

Cities including Decatur, Peoria, and Bloomington should expect periods of light to moderate rain this weekend, especially Saturday night and again Sunday evening. Thunderstorms may bring brief downpours but are not expected to reach severe levels. Monday could bring another round of rain before skies begin to clear Tuesday.

Drivers are urged to slow down on slick roads and remain alert during evening commutes, especially where heavier showers develop. Residents should secure outdoor items and check gutters and storm drains to prevent localized flooding.

Chilly nights will persist, with lows between 45 and 50 degrees until Tuesday. Additional updates or advisories may be issued if rainfall totals increase.
