Central Illinois Flood Watch: Up to 4 Inches of Rain Expected Through 7 AM Sunday

Champaign, IL — A flood watch remains in effect for central and southeastern Illinois, as heavy rainfall is expected to impact the region through 7 a.m. Sunday. The National Weather Service issued the warning for multiple counties, with up to 4 inches of rain possible.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, Illinois, additional rounds of rain and thunderstorms will likely bring 1 to 3 inches of rain to central Illinois, with heavier rainfall of up to 4 inches possible in the southeastern areas from I-70 southeast. The heaviest rainfall is anticipated to occur this evening, with 1 to 2 inches expected along and southeast of a line from Taylorville to Decatur to Champaign.

The excessive rainfall could result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying areas. Flood-prone regions are at an increased risk, and the public is advised to stay alert for possible flood warnings as conditions develop.
