Central Illinois Braces for Gusty Winds and Rain Overnight, Impacting Weekend Travel

Lincoln, IL – A wind advisory remains in effect for Lincoln and surrounding areas, including Route 66, until 1 a.m. Saturday. Residents can expect strong north winds reaching up to 50 mph, with gusts capable of downing trees and causing power outages. Travel conditions could be hazardous, particularly for high-profile vehicles along open roadways.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory covers Christian, Logan, and Sangamon counties. Rain and wind will continue Friday evening, with gusts peaking by early Saturday. The chance of rain is 50% tonight and decreases to 30% Saturday morning before clearing by afternoon. Cooler weather will settle in for the weekend, with highs near 75°F on Saturday and 77°F on Sunday.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor objects and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of high winds. Temperatures will warm slightly at the start of next week, with mostly sunny conditions expected through Thursday.
