Florida – A fast-moving cold front is bringing severe storms, heavy rain, and strong winds across Central Florida today. Residents in areas along the I-4 corridor, including Lake and Volusia counties, should prepare for gusts up to 55 mph and locally heavy rainfall through the afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Melbourne, a wind advisory is in effect until 3 p.m. for Brevard, Osceola, Indian River, St. Lucie, Martin, and Okeechobee counties. Peak gusts could reach 40 mph, making driving conditions hazardous, especially on I-95 and other major highways. A marginal risk exists for severe storms capable of producing brief tornadoes and frequent lightning.
Rain and embedded thunderstorms are expected to move southeast through the region, gradually easing by late afternoon. The NWS urges residents to secure outdoor objects, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay alert for localized flooding on low-lying roads.
Looking ahead, a cooler start to the week is forecast. Monday will be partly cloudy, with highs in the low 60s and brisk northerly winds. Rain chances return Tuesday and Wednesday as another weather system develops, bringing gusts of 25 mph and continued cooler temperatures.
Prepare for today’s severe weather by monitoring updates from local authorities, staying indoors during storms, and avoiding flooded areas.
