ORLANDO, Fla. – Millions of residents across East Central Florida could face powerful storm conditions Tuesday afternoon, with wind gusts strong enough to down tree limbs and trigger scattered power outages.
According to the US National Weather Service in Melbourne, a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe thunderstorms is in place from approximately 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. The affected areas include portions of Lake, Volusia, Seminole, Orange, Osceola, Brevard, and Indian River counties.
The main threat is gusty winds between 45 and 55 mph, though isolated gusts could exceed 60 mph. These strong storms also bring the risk of frequent and deadly lightning, locally heavy rainfall leading to minor flooding, and a chance of small hail. Communities like Sanford, Titusville, and Vero Beach are all included in the severe weather outlook.
Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items like patio furniture and trash bins before the storms move in. Drivers on major corridors such as I-4 and I-95 should prepare for hazardous conditions, including sudden downpours and reduced visibility.
The primary storm threat is expected to decrease after 10 p.m. this evening. Floridians in the region should monitor local media for any watches or warnings that may be issued.
