Melbourne, FL – Residents and visitors across Central Florida’s beaches are urged to avoid entering the ocean today, as the National Weather Service (NWS) in Melbourne warns of a high risk of life-threatening rip currents. Winds from the northeast at 10-15 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph, are expected to exacerbate dangerous surf conditions throughout the day, particularly affecting beaches in Brevard, Volusia, Indian River, Saint Lucie, and Martin counties.

According to the NWS, rip currents pose a significant hazard, capable of sweeping even strong swimmers away from shore. “Residents and visitors are strongly advised to stay out of the surf,” reads the NWS alert. Beachgoers are encouraged to heed warnings and avoid the water entirely until conditions improve, which is expected later this week.

In addition to beach hazards, Melbourne’s forecast today includes mostly cloudy skies, with a slight chance of showers in the afternoon. High temperatures are predicted to reach 82°F. Winds will stay steady from the northeast, maintaining breezy conditions along coastal roads, including A1A. Motorists are advised to exercise caution due to potential crosswinds.

Looking ahead, Tuesday will bring a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon, with highs around 82°F and winds increasing up to 25 mph. Clearer conditions are anticipated by midweek, with mostly sunny skies forecast from Wednesday through Friday. Highs will remain in the low 80s, while nighttime temperatures are expected to cool to the low 70s.
