Orlando, FL – Rain bands from Hurricane Helene began hitting Central Florida early Thursday morning, bringing the risk of tornadoes, heavy rain, and high winds. The National Weather Service has issued a tropical storm warning for all east-central Florida counties, with conditions expected to worsen throughout the day.

The primary threats for Central Florida include wind gusts exceeding 60 mph, localized flooding with up to 3 inches of rain, and the possibility of several tornadoes forming in Helene’s outer bands. Counties such as Orange, Seminole, and Brevard are under heightened alert as these impacts could cause power outages, fallen trees, and dangerous road conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, preparations should already be complete, and residents are urged to stay indoors and avoid travel unless absolutely necessary. With gusty winds and isolated tornadoes expected, securing outdoor items and staying away from windows is highly recommended.

Flooding is also a concern, especially in low-lying areas and places with poor drainage. Local officials are advising residents to stay updated on weather alerts and have multiple ways of receiving warnings, especially if cell service becomes disrupted. Conditions will continue to deteriorate as Helene approaches landfall in Florida’s Big Bend later today.
