Melbourne, Florida – Dry skies and seasonal warmth return to east central Florida today, but beachgoers are being urged to stay out of the water due to a high risk of rip currents along the Atlantic coast.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, mostly sunny skies will dominate Thursday with onshore winds increasing through the afternoon. Gusts could reach 25 mph, especially near the coast, as east-southeast breezes develop inland.

Temperatures are expected to climb into the upper 70s to low 80s for coastal cities like Daytona Beach, Cocoa Beach, and Melbourne, while areas west of I-95 may see highs in the mid to upper 80s.

Despite the calm skies, conditions in the surf are hazardous. The NWS strongly advises against entering the ocean due to powerful rip currents stretching from Volusia to Martin counties. Lifeguards and local officials urge residents and tourists to enjoy the sun from the sand and avoid swimming altogether.

The high rip current threat remains in effect through this evening. Additional beach safety advisories may be issued if winds remain elevated.
