Santa Barbara, California – A surge of unseasonably hot temperatures is expected to grip California’s Central Coast starting late Thursday morning, pushing some inland areas close to 95 degrees and increasing the risk of heat-related illness through Friday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard, a Heat Advisory remains in effect from 10 a.m. Thursday until 8 p.m. Friday for large portions of San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties. Coastal communities such as Pismo Beach, Morro Bay, and Santa Barbara could climb into the mid-80s, while inland valleys including Santa Maria, Solvang, and Los Olivos may approach the mid-90s during the afternoon hours.
The warm pattern will also affect popular Central Coast destinations including Avila Beach, Cambria, and Arroyo Grande, along with mountainous terrain across the Santa Ynez and Santa Lucia ranges.
Health officials warn the heat may pose increased risk for older adults, young children, and outdoor workers, especially for those without access to air conditioning. Residents are encouraged to drink plenty of water, wear lightweight clothing, and avoid strenuous activity during peak afternoon heat.
Forecasters say temperatures will remain well above seasonal averages through Friday evening, and additional heat alerts may be issued if the warm conditions persist into the weekend along California’s Central Coast.
