Peachtree City, GA – Central and west-central Georgia are under a Flood Watch until Monday afternoon as excessive rainfall poses a flooding threat across several counties. The National Weather Service has issued the alert for regions including Harris, Muscogee, Sumter, and Dooly, where rainfall totals of up to 4 inches are expected by Monday.
According to the National Weather Service, rainfall of 1 to 3 inches has already fallen over the last 24 hours, with an additional 2 to 4 inches expected through Monday afternoon. This amount of rainfall could lead to dangerous flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying areas, particularly in flood-prone locations.
Communities including Fort Benning, Columbus, Montezuma, and Americus are among those at risk. Residents in these areas should remain vigilant and be prepared to take action should flood warnings be issued. Those living in flood-prone areas should ensure that they have emergency plans in place, including knowing evacuation routes and having necessary supplies on hand.
The National Weather Service advises continued monitoring of local forecasts and urges anyone in flood-prone areas to stay alert for additional warnings. Conditions may evolve rapidly as the rain continues.
