Columbus, Ohio – Strong storms are sweeping across central and southwest Ohio this afternoon, with high winds and hail possible through 7 p.m. Friday, prompting a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for 15 counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, the watch includes Franklin, Delaware, Greene, Miami, and Montgomery counties, among others. Cities such as Columbus, Dayton, Springfield, and Newark are in the risk zone for 60 mph wind gusts and isolated large hail.
Residents in towns like Xenia, Marysville, and Washington Court House should prepare for rapid weather changes, especially during the evening commute. Power outages and tree damage are possible with these storms, and downed limbs could block local roads.
Those in affected areas are advised to secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain or lightning, and monitor NOAA Weather Radio or local alerts for any upgraded warnings.
This is the same storm system that brought hail and wind damage to parts of Indiana earlier today.
The Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 7 p.m., and additional alerts could be issued if conditions intensify.
