Des Moines, IA – A winter storm is bringing snow, freezing rain, and strong winds across Iowa, with conditions expected to persist through Saturday evening. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for much of the state, warning of hazardous road conditions and reduced visibility.

According to the National Weather Service in Des Moines, snowfall began Friday night in northern Iowa and will spread southward overnight. Areas in central and northern Iowa are expected to receive between 2 to 4 inches of snow, with localized higher amounts in heavier snow bands. Southern Iowa will experience a mix of freezing rain and snow, with up to one-tenth of an inch of ice accumulation before transitioning to snow Saturday afternoon.

Light snow or flurries will persist into Saturday night, with blowing snow continuing into Sunday morning, making travel conditions treacherous. Officials urge drivers to slow down and use caution on the roads.
