Albany, NY – A powerful storm system will bring heavy rain and snow to the region starting Thursday. The National Weather Service issued Winter Weather Advisories and Warnings for parts of the area, including the Catskills.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, rain will dominate lower elevations, with 1-2 inches expected by Friday. Higher elevations, particularly above 3,000 feet, could see snowfall amounts of 4-10 inches. Snow is likely to start Thursday afternoon as temperatures drop.

Communities in Schoharie and Delaware counties remain under Winter Storm Warnings, with hazardous road conditions anticipated. Winds may gust up to 21 mph in some areas, reducing visibility in the snow. Meanwhile, lighter snowfall is expected in the southern Adirondacks.

Drivers should exercise caution on slick roads, especially in higher elevations. Residents should prepare for potential power outages from wet, heavy snow.

The storm could affect travel through the weekend as rain and snow linger into Friday night. Lighter precipitation may continue Saturday, making for a messy start to the Thanksgiving week.
