Port McNeill, BC – A 4.1 magnitude earthquake occurred offshore on Wednesday, shaking areas near Port McNeill on Vancouver Island. The tremor struck 188 kilometers southwest of the town, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

The earthquake hit at a depth of 10 kilometers beneath the seabed. While no significant damage or injuries have been reported, the quake was felt by several residents in coastal communities. The region, located near tectonic plate boundaries, frequently experiences seismic activity.

According to the USGS, the earthquake was registered at 15:35:52 UTC (8:35 a.m. PDT). Early reports suggest only mild shaking in the affected areas, with a few citizens contributing responses through the USGS “Did You Feel It?” portal.

Emergency officials remind residents to remain alert for aftershocks, which can sometimes follow even minor quakes. While a magnitude 4.1 earthquake is considered moderate, experts recommend preparedness measures in seismically active regions like British Columbia. The USGS continues to monitor the area for further seismic events.
