Sacramento, California – Snowfall and strong winds are set to blanket California’s Sierra Nevada above 6,000 feet starting Friday evening, potentially disrupting travel through the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, a Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect from 5 p.m. Friday until 11 a.m. Sunday for the West Slope of the Northern Sierra Nevada and Western Plumas County, including Lassen Park. Snow accumulations between 3 to 6 inches are expected, with up to 10 inches possible on the highest peaks. Wind gusts may reach 35 mph.
Communities like Chester, Quincy, and Blue Canyon could see hazardous road conditions, particularly during the Friday evening commute and weekend travel hours. Drivers heading into the mountains should be prepared for slippery roads and reduced visibility. Caltrans advises checking road status at quickmap.dot.ca.gov or by dialing 511.
This will mark one of the more notable late-season snow events in the region, and travelers are urged to carry chains, charge devices, and delay trips if possible.
The advisory remains in effect through late Sunday morning, with updates possible as conditions evolve.
