San Bernardino, California – Snow and gusty winds are set to create hazardous travel conditions across the San Bernardino County Mountains on Saturday, with accumulations expected to reach up to 6 inches in higher elevations and wind gusts topping 50 mph.

According to the National Weather Service in San Diego, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. PDT Saturday for areas above 5,500 feet, including Big Bear Lake, Big Bear City, and Running Springs. The heaviest snow is likely in the San Gabriel Mountains, while desert mountain slopes could see wind gusts strong enough to blow around loose objects and make driving treacherous.

Drivers on State Route 18, Highway 38, and other mountain roads should plan for slippery conditions, limited visibility, and possible delays. Chains may be required as snow begins to accumulate, especially during heavier bands. Residents are urged to slow down, keep emergency kits in their vehicles, and check Caltrans road updates before traveling.

This spring storm brings an unusually late round of snow for Southern California’s mountain communities. Additional advisories may follow if conditions worsen. For the latest road and weather updates, dial 511 or visit Caltrans online.
