San Bernardino, CA – A winter storm warning remains in effect for the San Bernardino and Riverside County mountains from 4 p.m. Saturday to 4 p.m. Monday, bringing heavy snow and strong winds to the region.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), areas above 6,000 feet could receive 12-18 inches of snow, with 6-12 inches expected above 5,000 feet and 3-6 inches above 4,000 feet. Wind gusts may reach up to 50 mph on Saturday, creating hazardous travel conditions, especially on bridges and overpasses.

The NWS warns that travel may become extremely difficult or impossible, particularly during the Monday morning commute. Roadways could turn slick, and falling tree branches are possible due to high winds.

Residents are urged to delay travel if possible and to carry emergency supplies, including a flashlight, food, and water, when traveling. Drivers should winterize their vehicles, allow extra travel time, and use caution on hills and turns.

For real-time road conditions, travelers can call 511. The warning affects communities including Lake Arrowhead, Big Bear Lake, Wrightwood, Crestline, Running Springs, and Idyllwild-Pine Cove.

Preparedness is key as conditions may change quickly, with visibility potentially reduced during peak snowfall and gusty winds.
