California Winter Storm Warning: Heavy Snow and 50 MPH Winds Until Friday Night

Medford, OR – A powerful winter storm is bringing heavy snowfall and strong winds to Siskiyou County, California, with hazardous travel conditions expected through Friday evening.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Medford, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11 a.m. Thursday, followed by a Winter Storm Watch from Thursday evening through Friday evening. Snow accumulations could reach 1 to 4 inches below 3,500 feet and up to 36 inches at elevations above 6,000 feet. Winds may gust as high as 50 mph, potentially downing tree branches and reducing visibility.

The affected areas include Interstate 5 south of Weed, Highway 97 northeast of Weed, and Highway 89 at Snowman Summit and Dead Horse Summit. Cities impacted by the storm include Mount Shasta, Dunsmuir, McCloud, Bray, and Tennant. Snow levels are expected to drop to 2,000 feet overnight into Thursday morning, with continued snowfall expected through Friday.

Western Siskiyou County, including Scott Bar, Happy Camp, Etna, and Fort Jones, will also experience significant snowfall, with totals ranging from 5 to 20 inches above 3,500 feet.
