El Centro, CA – Strong winds are expected to persist across Imperial County through early Wednesday morning, prompting a wind advisory that could impact drivers and residents across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, the advisory remains in effect until 2 a.m. PDT Wednesday, with sustained west winds of 25 to 35 mph and gusts reaching up to 60 mph. The most intense wind activity is forecast late Monday night through Tuesday, particularly in the southwest corner of the county, including Mountain Spring.

The advisory also covers the broader Imperial Valley region — including cities such as El Centro, Brawley, and Calexico — where separate alerts warn of gusts reaching 45 mph from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday. Western areas of Joshua Tree National Park are also under a wind advisory for Monday evening.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor objects, and drivers, especially those operating high-profile vehicles, should prepare for hazardous travel conditions due to strong crosswinds. Blowing dust and sand may reduce visibility in desert areas.

Officials advise staying updated via local alerts and limiting travel during peak wind periods when possible. These conditions, while not uncommon in the spring, could lead to brief disruptions across Imperial County’s desert corridors.
