San Francisco, CA – Residents in California’s North Bay and coastal areas should prepare for thunderstorms and dangerous surf conditions through Sunday. The National Weather Service issued a high surf advisory, warning of swells reaching up to 26 feet along beaches like Mavericks and Big Sur.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory remains in effect until 4 p.m. Sunday, with thunderstorms predicted to bring heavy rain and lightning starting this afternoon. While severe weather is not anticipated, localized flooding is possible in low-lying areas. Coastal visitors should avoid entering the water due to strong currents and the risk of injury from high waves.

Rain will intensify late tonight and persist into Sunday morning, with a 90% chance of precipitation and wind gusts up to 20 mph. Sunday’s high will hover near 60°F, with patchy fog lingering into the evening.

Looking ahead, the five-day forecast suggests continued wet conditions through Christmas. Monday and Tuesday will bring widespread showers and isolated thunderstorms, with Tuesday showing a 100% chance of rain. Conditions will improve slightly on Christmas Day, with partly sunny skies and a high of 58°F.

Drivers on Highway 101 and nearby coastal roads should remain cautious, as heavy rainfall may lead to slick surfaces and reduced visibility. Residents are urged to monitor updates and follow weather safety precautions.
