New Cuyama, CA – Residents in the Cuyama Valley are waking up to a cold start today as a Frost Advisory remains in effect through 8 a.m. PST, with temperatures dipping to near 32 degrees.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Los Angeles, overnight temperatures have fallen to freezing levels across portions of western Santa Barbara County. Forecasters say frost formation is expected through early Tuesday morning, posing potential risks to sensitive plants, crops, and outdoor animals.
The advisory, which began late Monday night, covers the entire Cuyama Valley, including the community of New Cuyama. The cold air is expected to create widespread frost on exposed surfaces until shortly after sunrise, when temperatures begin to rebound.
NWS officials warned that sensitive vegetation may be damaged or killed if left unprotected. Residents are encouraged to cover outdoor plants, bring pets indoors, and minimize exposure to vulnerable items that could be harmed by freezing temperatures.
While the cold spell is temporary, similar conditions may return later this week as overnight lows remain below seasonal averages. No additional watches or warnings have been issued yet, but forecasters recommend monitoring local forecasts for updates.
