Hanford, California – A rare late-April storm is set to bring soaking rain and mountain snow across Central California on Saturday, with travel delays and slick roads likely from San Luis Obispo to Yosemite Valley.

According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, the highest chances for at least a quarter inch of rain are focused on the Sierra Nevada foothills, the Central Coast, and the coastal ranges. San Luis Obispo, Atascadero, and Guadalupe could see probabilities of 67% or more, while areas like Oakhurst and Shaver Lake approach 70%. Valley cities such as Fresno, Visalia, and Bakersfield remain drier, with rain chances between 12% and 44%.

Travelers on Highway 41 and State Route 99 should expect wet conditions and possible slowdowns, especially near mountain passes and foothill communities. In the Sierra, fresh snow is likely to impact Yosemite Valley, Tioga Pass, and Lake Thomas Edison, where probabilities top 70%. Residents should avoid unnecessary mountain travel, use caution on slick roads, and prepare for reduced visibility.

This late-season storm brings welcome moisture to parched regions but could cause isolated power outages and minor flooding in low-lying areas. Rain and snow are expected to taper off by Saturday evening, but additional advisories may be issued if conditions worsen.
