Hanford, California – Warming temperatures this weekend will lead to a minor fire risk across the San Joaquin Valley and West Side Hills as humidity levels decrease and dry conditions persist. The National Weather Service (NWS) Hanford office has issued a caution for residents, especially those involved in outdoor activities, to take precautions to avoid sparking fires.

According to the NWS, relative humidity levels are expected to range between 15 and 25 percent, with temperatures reaching the mid-90s and wind gusts of up to 15 miles per hour from the Northwest. These factors combined with dry fuels will create conditions favorable for grass fire development.

Residents are advised to follow local burn bans and avoid using lawnmowers to cut dry grass, as the sparks generated can easily ignite fires. The NWS also recommends steering clear of dragging chains or parts from vehicles, which could also pose a fire risk.

Be sure to familiarize yourself with evacuation routes and have an emergency supply kit ready in case conditions worsen. The fire risk will remain high through the weekend, and the NWS will continue to monitor the situation for further updates.
