Hanford, CA – A high wind warning remains in effect for parts of central and southern California, with damaging winds expected to persist through Friday, potentially causing widespread power outages and hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, strong southwest winds of 25 to 40 mph, with gusts reaching up to 65 mph, are impacting areas including Coalinga, Avenal, the West Side Mountains north and south of Highway 198, and the Mojave Desert Slopes. The warning for Coalinga, Avenal, and surrounding areas remains in effect until 8 a.m. PDT Thursday, while the Mojave Desert Slopes will experience dangerous winds until 5 p.m. PDT Friday.

Officials warn that these high winds could knock down trees and power lines, leading to widespread outages. Travel, particularly for high-profile vehicles, will be difficult due to strong gusts. Motorists on highways and mountain passes should exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel.

Residents are advised to stay indoors, remain on lower levels of buildings, and avoid windows. Those in affected areas should prepare for possible power outages by charging devices and securing loose outdoor items.

The National Weather Service will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as necessary.
