Eureka, CA – A winter storm continues to impact Trinity County, bringing heavy snow and strong winds through Wednesday evening. A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 8 PM PDT for elevations above 3,500 feet.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Eureka, additional snow accumulations between 4 and 8 inches are expected. Wind gusts could reach 50 mph, creating hazardous travel conditions and the potential for falling tree branches.
Snow levels began at 4,500 feet Tuesday evening and have steadily dropped, reaching 3,000 feet Wednesday afternoon. By tonight, snow levels will lower further to between 1,500 and 2,500 feet, with an additional 1 to 3 inches of accumulation possible.
Residents and travelers in the area should prepare for difficult road conditions, especially along Highway 3 near Scott Mountain. The NWS advises carrying an emergency kit with a flashlight, food, and water if travel is necessary.
