Hanford, CA – A storm system moving through California this week is expected to bring significant rain and snowfall, posing challenges for travelers during the busy Thanksgiving holiday. The San Joaquin Valley and Sierra Nevada foothills will see widespread rain, while areas above 6,500 feet are bracing for heavy snow through Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service, rainfall totals of up to four inches are forecast for Hanford and surrounding areas. This will create hazardous driving conditions, particularly on Highway 99 and Highway 198. Motorists are urged to slow down, avoid cruise control, and maintain a safe distance between vehicles.
Tuesday will see the heaviest rain, with a high near 57°F and patchy fog. Snowfall in higher elevations, such as Shaver Lake and Grant Grove, could exceed a foot, making mountain travel treacherous. Conditions will begin to taper off Wednesday, but scattered showers may persist into the afternoon.
Looking ahead, Thanksgiving Day is expected to remain mostly dry and calm with highs in the upper 50s, offering relief for holiday plans. However, another rain system may arrive late Thursday into Friday, further complicating the week.
Residents are advised to monitor local forecasts and prepare for possible delays. Travelers heading through mountain passes should carry chains and check conditions before departing.
