San Diego, Calif. – Drivers along the Interstate 5 corridor should prepare for reduced visibility during their Wednesday morning commute. A persistent marine layer is expected to generate areas of patchy fog, creating potentially slow travel conditions until late morning. This classic “June Gloom” pattern will be a daily feature for the region throughout the week.

According to the National Weather Service, the patchy fog is anticipated to be most noticeable before 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Motorists are advised to use low-beam headlights and allow for extra following distance. After the fog clears, skies will become partly sunny with a high temperature near 73 degrees. A light southwest wind will develop in the afternoon.

The weather pattern is a result of a deep coastal marine layer, a common occurrence this time of year. While it can disrupt morning plans, it also helps keep temperatures mild and comfortable along the coast. This cycle of morning fog followed by afternoon sun is expected to repeat on Thursday and Friday with highs remaining in the low 70s.

Residents can expect the fog to redevelop each night after 11 p.m., with partly cloudy skies and a low around 61 degrees. This trend will continue into the weekend, though a slight warming trend is expected. By Sunday, afternoon highs could reach the upper 70s as the sun gains more ground against the morning clouds. Warnings remain in effect for morning drivers to exercise caution through the end of the week.
