Quincy, CA – A fresh round of winter weather is expected to hit higher elevations of Northern California beginning Thursday, bringing significant snowfall to mountain regions and disrupting travel into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, a Winter Weather Advisory will take effect from 11 a.m. Thursday through 5 p.m. Friday, impacting elevations above 5,500 feet in Western Plumas County, Lassen Park, and the West Slope of the Northern Sierra Nevada. Forecast models predict snowfall totals between 6 to 10 inches, with the heaviest accumulation expected Thursday night into early Friday.

Communities including Quincy, Chester, and Blue Canyon should prepare for slippery road conditions, potential chain controls, and delays, particularly during the Thursday evening and Friday morning commutes. Caltrans advises drivers to check QuickMap (quickmap.dot.ca.gov) or dial 511 for updated travel conditions before heading into affected zones.

Motorists are urged to drive cautiously, reduce speed on slick roads, and carry tire chains if traveling through mountain corridors. Though not uncommon for late March, this level of snow could still cause complications for spring travelers and residents alike. Drivers should allow for extra travel time and avoid non-essential trips during the storm window.
