Las Vegas, NV – A powerful winter storm is bringing heavy snowfall and dangerous travel conditions to mountain regions in California and Nevada, with warnings in effect until 11 p.m. Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service, the storm will impact the Eastern Sierra Slopes, White Mountains of Inyo County, and the Spring Mountains-Red Rock Canyon area. Snowfall totals are expected to reach 1 to 2 feet above 8,000 feet near the Sierra Crest, while areas above 6,000 feet could see 6 to 12 inches of snow. In the Spring Mountains, accumulations between 8 and 15 inches are anticipated above 7,000 feet, with lower elevations receiving 3 to 6 inches. Wind gusts could reach up to 65 mph in some areas, leading to whiteout conditions and potential power outages.

Officials warn that travel could be very difficult to impossible, particularly in Westgard Pass and along mountain roads. Blowing snow may reduce visibility to less than a quarter mile in some locations. The strong winds may also bring down tree branches and power lines.

Drivers are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and carry emergency supplies, including food, water, and flashlights. For road condition updates, travelers can call 511 in Nevada or 1-800-427-7623 in California.
