Northern California – A series of minor earthquakes shook northern California early Friday, November 8, affecting communities from Susanville to Aromas. The tremors, recorded by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), ranged in magnitude from 2.6 to 2.9 and prompted local responses.
The strongest quake struck near Aromas around 12:38 a.m., reaching a magnitude of 2.9 at a depth of 7.7 kilometers. Less than an hour later, another 2.7-magnitude earthquake hit near Susanville, 10 kilometers north-northeast of the town, at a shallow depth of 1.9 kilometers. Other quakes also affected areas around The Geysers and Redway, though all measured below 3.0 in magnitude.
USGS’s “Did You Feel It?” initiative logged responses from several residents, particularly in Aromas, where seven people reported light shaking. Scientists encourage residents to submit their experiences, which aids in refining seismic data and enhancing preparedness efforts.
As of Friday evening, no injuries or significant damage were reported. California’s seismic activity serves as a reminder for residents to stay alert and have an emergency plan in place.
