San Francisco, CA – Residents across the Bay Area should take precautions this week as the National Weather Service has issued a Minor Heat Risk advisory through Friday, with elevated health concerns for vulnerable groups like older adults and infants.

According to the National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area/Monterey office, the current level—Level 1 out of 4 on the HeatRisk scale—means most people will tolerate the heat with little to no issue. However, those 65 and older, infants, and individuals with chronic conditions such as heart disease or diabetes may face a higher chance of heat-related illnesses, especially without adequate cooling.

Cities across the region, including San Jose, Oakland, Santa Rosa, and Monterey, will see daytime temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s, with limited overnight cooling. While not extreme, lack of airflow and prolonged sun exposure can raise risks in homes without air conditioning.

Officials recommend staying hydrated with water or sports drinks, keeping blinds closed during the hottest parts of the day, and checking on elderly neighbors or relatives. If possible, limit outdoor activity to morning or evening hours and use fans or open windows to boost circulation indoors.

HeatRisk alerts remain in effect through Friday evening, and updated guidance will be issued if temperatures trend higher.
