Hanford, California – Extreme heat will grip central California starting Friday, with temperatures climbing to 106°F in parts of the San Joaquin Valley and a heat advisory in effect through 7 a.m. Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, dangerously hot conditions are expected from 11 a.m. Friday through early Sunday across a wide region stretching from Merced to Bakersfield. The hottest spots include Hanford, Visalia, Fresno, and surrounding communities where afternoon highs will soar above 100°F.

Heat-related illness risk will rise sharply, especially for those working or spending time outdoors. Officials urge residents to limit outdoor activities to early morning or evening hours and to wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing. OSHA recommends frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas for outdoor workers.

In Hanford, highs are forecast to reach 102°F Friday and peak at 106°F on Saturday. Overnight lows in the upper 60s may offer little relief. Cities like Tulare, Coalinga, and Porterville are expected to see similar extremes.

Residents should drink plenty of fluids, check on vulnerable neighbors, and keep pets cool. This early-season heatwave may stress power grids and trigger cooling center activations.

The advisory remains in effect through 7 a.m. Sunday, with updates expected as the heat wave progresses.
