Sacramento, CA – Drivers in Northern California should prepare for dense fog and rain Wednesday morning, particularly along Interstate 5. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that visibility could drop below one mile during peak commuting hours.

According to the NWS, patchy fog will form after midnight and become widespread between 4 a.m. and 9 a.m. in Sacramento, Stockton, and other parts of the Central Valley. Motorists are urged to use low-beam headlights, reduce speed, and allow extra travel time. The fog could impact roadways like I-80 and Highway 99, compounding delays.

Rain is expected to move into the area by Wednesday evening, with an 80% chance of showers overnight. The rain will continue into Thursday, with the heaviest precipitation predicted before 10 a.m. Gusty winds from the south could add additional hazards for morning drivers.

Looking ahead, Thursday and Friday will bring intermittent showers, with temperatures peaking in the mid-50s. A brief dry period may occur Friday afternoon, but more rain is likely this weekend. Saturday’s forecast includes scattered showers and highs around 54 degrees, with conditions staying cool and wet through Sunday.

Travelers should check road conditions frequently, particularly before venturing into areas with dense fog or rainfall. Drivers are advised to slow down and remain vigilant to ensure safety during these hazardous conditions.
